Alan Titchmarsh Jokes ‘Edit It Out’ After Prue Leith’s Surprising Gardening Confession on Love Your Weekend

Television presenter Alan Titchmarsh was visibly surprised during Sunday’s episode of Love Your Weekend when Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith made an unexpected confession just minutes into the show.

On the November 23 installment, Alan welcomed Prue Leith and actor Robert Bathurst—known for Downton Abbey and Cold Feet—into his garden shed for a lively chat. The trio began by discussing their African roots, with Prue recalling her upbringing in Cape Town, South Africa, and Robert sharing his beginnings in Accra, Ghana. The conversation soon shifted to gardening.

Robert revealed he had recently taken up growing his own vegetables and was making progress, though he admitted his wife Victoria was the more skilled gardener. Curious, Prue expressed interest in Robert’s gardening journey and asked practical questions about managing homegrown produce.

“If you’re growing vegetables, what do you do with all the produce that hits you in the summer?” Prue asked. She described the common challenge of being overwhelmed by bountiful harvests of tomatoes and spinach. Reflecting on her personal experience, she explained how she often found herself freezing excess spinach late into the night, only to fill the freezer and eventually compost leftovers.

Prue candidly added, “The supermarket has perfectly good packets for the amount of veg that I want rather than a mountain on Monday and nothing on Tuesday.”

Alan was taken aback by her honesty. With a smile, he quipped, “If only we could edit that out,” causing the group to burst into laughter. He then joked, “Prue Leith, famous cook—don’t bother growing it, it’s in the supermarket.”

Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh continues to air Sundays at 9:30am on ITV and ITVX.
