Adam Henson, a presenter on the BBC show Countryfile, has responded to backlash over a deer hunting segment featured on the program. He emphasized the necessity of controlling deer numbers through a humane cull for the environment. Addressing misconceptions about consuming venison, Henson highlighted its health benefits, debunking common myths associated with it.
Henson explained that venison is a year-round, low-fat protein source rich in essential nutrients, challenging beliefs that it is exclusively for the gentry, gamey, and only available in winter. He clarified that it contains essential minerals, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids, and has lower cholesterol compared to most farmed meats.
In light of the backlash, Adam Henson defended the importance of managing deer populations, stressing the adverse impact of their overpopulation on biodiversity and woodland management.

Countryfile previously faced criticism for a segment that was perceived as glamorizing the shooting of deer. The controversial episode, set in the Scottish Highlands, drew objections from viewers who questioned the necessity of killing the animals and suggested alternative measures such as neutering.
Adam Henson, along with fellow presenters John Craven and Vick Hope, will be back on Countryfile at 5.15pm this evening (Sunday, April 20) on BBC One.
