Abbey Logistics Seeks Permission for New Gloucester Operating Centre at Magnum Ice Cream Factory

Abbey Logistics Group Ltd has applied to establish an operating centre in Gloucester, aiming to base four heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and four trailers at the Magnum Company site on Corinium Avenue (GL4 3BW). The application is part of a Goods Vehicle Operator’s Licence process and invites written representations within 21 days from the notice date.

Abbey Logistics, operating from Suite 11, Stonecross Place, Stonecross Lane North, Golborne, Greater Manchester, intends to support its haulage operations in the Gloucester area by utilising the facility owned by Unilever, the manufacturer behind the Magnum ice cream brand.

An operating centre licence authorises the location where HGVs are routinely kept when not in use. Residents and neighbouring businesses often consider associated factors such as vehicle movement frequency, access routes, parking arrangements within the yard, and noise from vehicle idling or loading activities.

Owners or occupiers of land near the proposed facility who believe their use or enjoyment of their property might be adversely affected are encouraged to submit their comments. Representations must state clear reasons related to relevant operational and planning concerns such as traffic safety, site access, parking, and potential disturbances.

Written representations should be sent to the Traffic Commissioner at Quarry House, Quarry Hill, Leeds LS2 7UE. A copy of any representation must also be sent to Abbey Logistics Group Ltd at the applicant address provided above. All submissions must arrive within 21 days of the public notice date. Guidance on making representations, objections and complaints is available on the GOV.UK website.

The Traffic Commissioner will consider all valid representations before making a decision on the application.

This application relates to the site of the UK’s largest ice cream factory, highlighting the ongoing logistics operations necessary to support large-scale food production and distribution in Gloucester.
