A young pony, believed to have been abandoned, was discovered roaming the streets of a busy shopping area in Gloucester, including a main road. The incident raised serious safety concerns, especially as the animal was dangerously close to rising floodwaters.
Gloucester City Council reported that the yearling, affectionately named Merlin by council staff, was found in the Westgate district. Following the discovery, council personnel safely relocated Merlin to a secure location within the city where he is now being cared for.
In a statement released on February 4, a council spokesperson said, “A young pony found wandering in the Westgate district of Gloucester has been moved to a safe place elsewhere in the city where it’s being looked after. Reports suggested the pony appeared abandoned and was dangerously near rising floodwater, as well as having made its way onto a busy main road. Thankfully, Merlin is fit and healthy.”
