A417 Overnight Closures and Speed Limit Enforcement Continue Amid Major Bypass Construction

Motorists should prepare for further overnight closures on a busy section of the A417 in Gloucestershire next week. From Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, the Crickley Hill stretch—from the A46 Brockworth junction to the Air Balloon roundabout—will be closed nightly between 9pm and 6am.

National Highways has confirmed these closures are necessary to remove and reinstall kerbs, install drainage systems, and carry out resurfacing work. These activities form part of the ongoing A417 Missing Link project, a major construction effort to build a new 3.4-mile bypass near Birdlip aimed at improving traffic flow and safety.

Drivers are strongly advised to adhere strictly to official diversion routes and avoid relying on Sat-Nav devices during these closures. Additionally, a temporary speed limit has been imposed along this section of the A417 for safety reasons. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are actively monitoring speed compliance to enforce the restrictions and ensure a safer environment for both workers and road users.
