A critical junction on the A38 near Gloucester will be closed overnight for 10 nights to allow for essential resurfacing works, causing significant travel disruptions for motorists accessing the M5.
The closure will affect Junction 12 at the A38/A430 Bath Road Hardwicke, between the Quedgeley Interchange and the Bristol Road roundabout. Specifically, the northbound A430 between Quedgeley Interchange and Bristol Road will be shut, as well as the southbound section towards Stonehouse at the opposite end of Quedgeley Interchange.
Key routes impacted include the southbound M5 slip roads, the A430 Bath Road (Hardwicke to Northbound Slip), and the B4008 Bath Road (A430 to Mount Farm Lane). Northbound travel will be affected on the M5 slip roads, A430 Bath Road Hardwicke, and the A38 Bath Road Hardwicke.

The closures are scheduled to run overnight from Thursday, July 2, through Monday, July 13, excluding Sundays, July 5 and July 12. Operating hours are from 8pm to 7am Monday to Thursday, and 10pm to 6am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Southbound drivers should expect diversions extending over 10 miles southeast, routing through Whitminster and Stonehouse, before circling back via Standish. Northbound drivers will face even longer detours of approximately 15 miles, traveling along the A38 past Gloucester to Barnwood, then rejoining the M5 at Junction 11A (Hucclecote).
To assist motorists, clear diversion signage will be prominently placed along the M5 and A38, providing advance warning and guidance on alternative routes during the closure period.
