A Delightful Lunch Experience at MUSE Brasserie, Gloucester Quays

Gloucester Quays welcomed a fresh dining experience last month with the opening of MUSE Brasserie, a unique restaurant blending French and Indian cuisines. Drawn by curiosity and a rainy midday, I decided to seek refuge and sample what this newcomer had to offer.

MUSE marks the brand’s third location, joining its established venues in Cheltenham and Bristol, now claiming a prime spot amidst well-known chains like Nando’s and Wagamama. Its presence brings a refreshing burst of originality and local charm to the city centre food scene.

The restaurant’s reputation is already glowing, boasting a 5-star rating on Tripadvisor with guests lauding its striking décor and exceptional dishes. Upon entering on a quiet Wednesday afternoon, I was greeted by a stylish interior featuring plush seating and an enchanting blossom tree accentuated by fairy lights, setting the tone for a relaxed yet sophisticated meal.

Dressed smartly and seated by the window, I had the perfect perch for watching the bustling quay outside while diving into the menu. An enticing lunchtime special caught my eye — from 12 to 3 pm on weekdays, a main dish paired with a drink (wine, beer, or soft drink) is available for just £14.95.

The choices included a 5oz minute steak with skinny fries or the MUSE vegan thali, an array of small Indian-inspired plates. Considering the a la carte prices — £19 for the steak and £22 for the thali — the deal was too good to resist, and I eagerly opted for the thali.

The generous platter arrived soon after, brimming with a colorful selection: fluffy rice, crispy papadums, pea kofta, dal makhani (creamy lentils), dum aloo (potato curry), and poriyal (South Indian vegetable stir-fry), accompanied by a beautifully light, buttery paratha flatbread.

Sampling each dish revealed standout favourites in the dum aloo and dal makhani. The rich, buttery curry and velvety lentils were especially delightful, perfectly complemented by the paratha that expertly soaked up every last bite of sauce.

Though I skipped dessert, the decadent rhubarb crumble trifle enjoyed by a nearby couple caught my eye — a tempting finish to any meal.

MUSE Brasserie offers an elegant dining experience without hefty prices, making it an ideal lunch destination for those seeking quality and atmosphere. I look forward to returning and exploring more of their enticing menu.
