Gloucester City manager Daf Williams praised his team after their commanding 2-0 victory over Gosport Borough on Wednesday night. The win marked a significant achievement for the Tigers, especially on the road.
Gloucester dominated the first half with numerous chances and controlled possession but went into halftime scoreless. The breakthrough finally came in the 68th minute when Harry Pinchard unleashed a beautiful curling shot from outside the box, striking the top left corner to give the visitors the lead.
Fifteen minutes later, Kane Simpson doubled the advantage. On his return to the squad following a brief absence, Simpson smartly turned with the ball at his back to goal before firing home with precision.

Gloucester held firm to secure a vital three points away from home against a Gosport team that had impressively won six of their previous seven home matches.
Williams reflected on the strong performance: “It’s a good win; it’s a good performance. The lads were very good. We want to dedicate this one to the supporters because our away form hasn’t been good enough.”
He continued, “You see the same faces travelling week in, week out and this one’s for them. Also, for those who couldn’t make it tonight but have supported us through a demanding period.”
The manager acknowledged the team’s recent away struggles but remains optimistic: “We’ve had a lot of away games, some where we performed but didn’t get results. Tonight, the performance matched the result, so we’re really pleased.”
It was Gloucester’s first clean sheet in 10 games, something Williams emphasized as a critical aspect for the team moving forward. “We’ve been craving a clean sheet for a while. We were disappointed at Tiverton, Sholing and even Walton with how those games ended. We’re pleased with the clean sheet and Thompson deserves praise along with everyone who contributed.”
Williams concluded, urging his squad to maintain this level: “Our away form needs to improve, so now we have to back this up for the rest of the season. But first, I want the players to enjoy this – the feeling of coming away from home with a performance like that and a clean sheet. Ultimately, though, our focus is on Saturday.”
