Construction is now underway for a new £5 million GP surgery in Tetbury, following a traditional turf cutting ceremony that celebrated the start of the project. The facility will be located on land west of Worwell Farm and is set to serve over 10,000 patients, replacing the existing Phoenix Tetbury surgery.
Designed with modern healthcare needs in mind, the new surgery will feature 16 clinical consulting rooms to accommodate more patient consultations and treatments. This increase in capacity aims to reduce waiting times and enhance the overall patient experience. Additionally, 56 car parking spaces will be available for patients who drive to the facility.
Dr Angus McMyn, GP Partner at Phoenix Health Group, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s progress: “We are very pleased that work on our new surgery at Worwell Farm is finally getting underway. We’ve been working closely with Stonewood Homes Ltd to ensure the building is modern, environmentally friendly, and accessible, while also positively impacting the surrounding natural environment.”

The current surgery building no longer meets the growing demands of the local population. The new premises will allow the practice team to expand their services, offering additional consulting and treatment rooms. This space will accommodate a wider range of healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, physiotherapists, social prescribers, GP assistants, and mental health practitioners, providing tailored care to meet individual patient needs.
Patients can also expect improved reception and waiting areas that prioritize comfort, security, privacy, and accessibility, including for those with disabilities or mobility challenges. The new facility will also support ongoing staff training and education, fostering continuous professional development.
Helen Goodey, Director of Primary Care and Place at NHS Gloucestershire, highlighted the significance of the project: “Plans for a new GP surgery in Tetbury have been a priority since 2016. It has been challenging to find a suitable and affordable site, but we are delighted construction at Worwell Farm is now underway. The 1,000 square meter building, with its contemporary design, will provide an efficient, eco-friendly environment for high-quality medical care.”
The project involves collaboration between the Phoenix Health Group, Stonewood Homes, Assura, and healthcare consultants Osmond Tricks, with Melhuish & Saunders handling construction. Ashley Seymour, Development Director at Assura, stated, “We’re excited to break ground and help deliver this important development. It will make a real difference for patients and staff.”
James Petherick, Land and Planning Director at Stonewood Homes Ltd, added, “Reaching this milestone represents a significant achievement. We thank all partners involved and look forward to progressing construction alongside the development of 27 high-quality homes.”
The construction is expected to last approximately 12 months, with the new surgery slated to open in winter 2026/27.
