The 2026 Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) has been officially cancelled, marking a significant disappointment for aviation enthusiasts worldwide. Organisers have cited ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have led to limited access to the event’s usual venue, RAF Fairford, where the US Air Force is currently stationed.
In a heartfelt statement, organisers expressed their understanding of how deeply ingrained the event is for visitors, volunteers, partners, and the broader community. “RIAT is more than just an event—it’s a gathering filled with memories, traditions, and eager anticipation. Deciding to cancel this year’s air tattoo has not been easy,” the statement read.
This decision comes after extensive consultations with both the Royal Air Force and the United States Air Force, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding RAF Fairford’s availability due to the ongoing conflict.

Ticket holders are being offered several options: they can roll over their tickets for the 2027 event, request a full refund, or choose to donate the ticket cost to the RAF Charitable Trust, which supports various military and community causes.
Gavin Gager, CEO of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, acknowledged the disappointment this news brings. “We understand how much RIAT means to everyone involved, and we share in that disappointment. Our gratitude goes out to all supporters for their continued loyalty and understanding,” he said. “Looking forward, we are committed to returning in 2027 with an event that is bigger and better than before. We eagerly await the opportunity to welcome everyone back.”
The cancellation underscores the impact of global conflicts on even long-standing cultural and community events, while reaffirming the organisers’ dedication to delivering RIAT’s rich heritage in future years.
