Starbucks is set to open a new drive-through coffee shop at Kingsway Business Park, Naas Lane, Quedgeley, on the outskirts of Gloucester. The company has submitted an application to Gloucester City Council for 12 signs promoting the new branch, marking a significant addition to the local business park.
The new Starbucks will occupy a site currently home to a vacant two-storey brick building that has previously housed a dance studio, a cafe, and even a Ministry of Defence canteen. The redevelopment plans include creating ample parking, outdoor seating areas, EV charging points, and dedicated drive-through facilities with an order point and customer waiting area.
Strategically located on the north-western boundary facing Rudloe Drive, the drive-through unit will be set back from the road, with a low-level knee railing and a designated drive-thru lane shielding it from the busiest frontages on Rudloe Drive and Naas Lane. This layout prioritizes both traffic flow and visual appeal.

Proposed landscaping features include new trees planted to the north-east, along with energy-efficient LED lighting in the form of bollards and discreet downlights on building canopies. These elements are designed to provide visual and acoustic screening, blending the site seamlessly with adjacent properties while creating clear separations between pedestrian and vehicle areas.
Prepared by SRA Architects on behalf of Robert Hitchins Limited, the application describes the project as a modest-sized, well-suited development that offers new employment opportunities for the area. It will serve as a convenient amenity not only for staff at nearby commercial centers, including Waterwells Business Park, but also for local residents of Quedgeley and Kingsway.
The application highlights the complementary nature of the Starbucks drive-thru, emphasizing its role in supporting the local community and enhancing the overall business park environment.
