11-Year-Old Girl Airlifted to Hospital Following Serious Crash in South West

A serious road traffic collision in Devon has resulted in an 11-year-old girl sustaining life-changing injuries. The incident occurred on the eastbound carriageway of the A30 near the Fingle Glen junction on Thursday, 20 August, at approximately 12.40pm.

According to reports, a Volkswagen Polo and a Ford Ranger collided in the eastbound lane. The girl, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen Polo and hails from Monmouth near the Gloucestershire-South Wales border, was airlifted from the scene to Bristol Children’s Hospital. She is currently receiving treatment there.

The female driver of the Volkswagen Polo, along with two other child passengers from the same vehicle, were taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with minor injuries. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that the driver remained in hospital for treatment as of the afternoon of the incident.

The A30 was closed by officers from the Roads Policing Team to allow emergency services to attend to the crash and for subsequent investigations. The road fully reopened in both directions by 8.40pm that evening.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. They are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to assist in their inquiries.
