11-year-old girl airlifted to hospital following serious collision in Devon

An 11-year-old girl from Monmouth in South Wales suffered life-changing injuries after a serious collision on the A30 in Devon. The crash, involving a Volkswagen Polo and a Ford Ranger, occurred near the Fingle Glen junction on the eastbound carriageway at approximately 12:40pm on Thursday, 20 August.

Emergency services were dispatched quickly, and the young girl, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen Polo, was airlifted to Bristol Children’s Hospital for treatment. The female driver of the Polo and two other children in the same vehicle sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that the woman driver remained in hospital as of Thursday afternoon. Following the collision, officers from the Roads Policing Team temporarily closed the A30 westbound and eastbound carriageways, with the road fully reopening by 8:40pm the same day.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. They are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage to come forward.
