Drivers in the Cotswolds are being rerouted this week due to a temporary road closure in Tetbury Upton. A two-mile section of the B4014, which runs from Tetbury to Avening, will be closed nightly for seven nights to allow essential resurfacing work. Additionally, a 1.5-mile stretch near the Chavenage Green turning will also be closed during the same hours.
The closures are scheduled from 7pm to 7am, starting Monday, July 27, until Tuesday, August 4, with no restrictions over the weekend. As a result, motorists travelling along the B4014 between Tetbury Upton and Avening during closure hours will need to follow a diversion of nearly 11 miles.
The designated detour route takes drivers south along the B4014 to Tetbury, then west for 3.5 miles on the A4135 to the A46 junction. From there, the route heads north along the A46 for three miles to Nailsworth before looping back to Avening via the B4014 Avening Road, bypassing the closed segment.
Under the Temporary Traffic Order enacted by Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways team, no vehicles will be allowed to enter or exit the closed sections during the closure hours. Pedestrian access will be maintained where safe, and emergency vehicles will be granted exceptions.
Residents received a letter explaining the closure, emphasizing safety for both the public and workers. It notes that the closed area may extend beyond the resurfacing site to accommodate machinery and materials. The council assures that work is scheduled to minimize disruptions and be completed efficiently.
